FORMABILITY
In conjunction with the material supplier and Product DevelopmentMaterials Engineering, the affected local manufacturing activityshall, as part of the initial material source approval process,approve the formability of this material by means of laboratorytest(s), manufacturing trial(s), and/or another mutually acceptablealternative, using the e and methods that are proposed forproduction.
If needed to enable the fabrication of a specific component,restricted tolerances and/or additional material propertyre (i.e., the " level" of the steel) shall bedeveloped by the affected manufacturing activity and the steelsupplier. Examples include, but are not limited to:restricted yield strength range, restricted gauge tolerance,specified minimum n-value, and specified surface roughness.
The " level" of the steel for a specific component:
· shall not conflict with specified re in paragraph 3 ofthis Engineering Material Specification
· shall be described in detail by the local manufacturingactivity
· shall be a mandatory extension of these Engineering MaterialSpecifications
Acceptance of subsequent orders by the steel supplier for a givencomponent at the agreed upon level implies that all steelsupplied will be of a comparable level and will form thatpart satisfactorily as defined and recorded by the manufacturingactivity. The test specimen geometry and orientation relativeto the rolling direction are to be established locally to certifyongoing production material.
