Industrial Edge Management (central Edge devices and applicationsoftware management)

Industrial Edge Management is the central infrastructure with whichall connected Edge devices and their software can efficiently beoperated and managed over the complete life cycle within a factoryor worldwide.

Instead of having to run software updates and security patches oneach device individually, you control everything centrally from onesystem, which can be installed on-premises, within the ITinfrastructure or in private/public cloud solutions asrequired.

The system is offered as:

• Installation for PCs and IT cloud infrastructures via an ISOimage

• Software as a service solution based on Siemens MindSphere(planned)

Moreover, Industrial Edge Management offers access to innumerableEdge applications of customers, partners and Siemens in the contextof the open ecosystem.

Unified Comfort Panel withintegrated Edge device management

In addition to central management of all connected Edge devices,the SIMATIC HMI Unified Comfort Panel offers the possibility to runthe Edge applications and to manage, start and stop Edgeapplications directly on the HMI.

Licenses

Industrial Edge HubAccess:

To obtain access to the Industrial Edge Management software, youfirst need access to the Industrial Edge Hub, which is availableglobally.
This is done using the Industrial Edge Hub Access license. TheIndustrial Edge Hub contains all the information you need tocommission an Industrial Edge solution such as documentation,software (Edge Management system, Edge App Publisher) fordownload.
The scope of supply includes the option of connecting and managingone (1) Edge device per Industrial Edge Management system free ofcharge.

Industrial Edge Managementlicense:

An annual fee is charged for each additional Industrial Edge devicethat is connected with the central Edge management for the centralupdate, firmware updates, security patches and continuous furtherdevelopment of the system.

Each connected device requires one (1) Industrial Edge Managementlicense.

The previously customary one-off fee for software does not apply atall to the Industrial Edge Management. Licensing is implemented fora period of one year based on the number of connected Edge devices(software update contract).

• In addition, the commissioning workload (installing theoperating system, security hardening, manual installation ofapplication software, user management) for PC-based systems isreduced thanks to the ready-to-use Edge Runtime, on which anyIndustrial Edge applications can be installed.

• Industrial Edge allows the industrial application and use ofEdge Computing on hundreds of machines and devices, alsodistributed globally. 

• Security patches are provided by Siemens and can be rolled outto all devices in a centralized manner.

• The devices and applications can be adapted to new requirementsat any time. Apps can be distributed to connected Edge devices withone click, meaning that the infrastructure grows with thecustomer's changes.
